OK, a list of Safety Rules sounds boring, but not half as boring as getting badly hurt or cold and wet (or maybe even worse).

Be Happy - Play Safe
Here are a few 'Dos' and 'Don’ts' to remember:

DINGHIES

Don't have anyone towed in a dinghy

Don't get in or out when under way (i.e. being towed)

Don't leave the Rowlocks in after you've finished rowing

Don't hold on to the mast when getting in or out

Don't sail or row out of sight of your 'parent' or 'watching' boat

Do wear a lifejacket every time you get in a dinghy

KITTING UP

Do wear warm clothes, preferably windproof

Do wear a lifejacket when on deck or under way

Do make sure your lifejacket is done up properly

Don't wear wellies on deck or when sailing

SAILING

Do listen to what the skipper says - discuss it later if necessary

Do look out and take all possible precautions to avoid a collision

Do indicate to other boats nearby if you intend to change course

Do keep alert, especially if you might gybe, to avoid injury

Don't fend off other boats with your arms or legs

Don't step or jump between two moving boats

Do watch where you're walking, so as not to trip over

Do get into the cabin and change ASAP if you've fallen in

MAST & SAILS

Do reef when it gets too breezy to handle the boat safely

Don't try to hoist or lower the mainsail out of/into the crutches

Do keep control of the mast as it goes up and down

Don't let any crew member be under the mast as it is being lowered
